British Academy of Management (BAM) Strategy SiG Report: 3rd Annual Online Workshop for PhDs

On 8th June, 2017, the BAM SIG in Strategy ran an online workshop for doctoral students in strategic management. The aim of the workshop was to give the doctoral students an opportunity to present their work, receive feedback and network with each other and academic colleagues.

The workshop was chaired by Professor Catherine Wang (Brunel Business School) and Anis Gabbur (doctoral researcher at Aston Business School, and PhD representative, BAM SIG in Strategy). The panel members included Dr Dimitrios Koufopoulos and Dr David Sarpong.

There has been a huge response to this year’s Call for Papers. Following a blind peer review, seven papers were selected for presentation on the day. The strength of the papers reflected the overall quality of the presentation.

The workshop provided a fascinating insight into current doctoral research into strategic management. Our contributors brought a strongly international flavour to the strategic management debate, with studies based in, or referring to China, Italy, Nigeria, Germany, as well as the UK.

A key theme emerging and running through the day was around innovation and cooperation strategies

Sarah Stanske presented on the interplay of organizational doing and being over time and won together with Madeleine Rauch the Best Paper Award. Congratulations!
